Introduction
High-fat foods include: 1. Fried foods—these absorb large amounts of oil during preparation, resulting in very high fat content; 2. Baked goods—made with high-fat ingredients such as butter, vegetable oil, and cream; 3. Canned foods—both meat- and fruit-based canned products often contain substantial amounts of added oil, salt, and sugar, increasing the risk of weight gain.

High-fat foods refer to foods with a high fat content. Specifically, dietary fats consist of various saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. Examples include oil-rich or deep-fried foods—such as walnuts, sesame seeds, and peanuts (plant-based sources); fried foods; fatty cuts of meat; organ meats; and dairy-based products like butter and cream. Long-term consumption of high-fat “junk food” may trigger multiple chronic diseases. To help prevent excessive fat accumulation in the body, individuals may incorporate certain lipid-lowering foods into their diet—effectively helping the body metabolize and reduce excess fat.

What Are Common High-Fat Foods?

1. Fried Foods

During preparation, fried foods absorb substantial amounts of cooking oil, resulting in very high fat content. Examples include Chinese fried dough sticks (youtiao), sesame balls (jian dui), fried rice cakes (you tang ba ba), baked flatbreads (shao bing), and fried chicken.

2. Baked Goods

To achieve a soft, flaky, and aromatic texture, baked goods typically contain high-fat ingredients such as butter, vegetable oil, and cream—leading to elevated fat levels in breads, pastries, and other baked items.

3. Canned Foods

Canning processes often degrade many nutrients—especially vitamins—significantly reducing the overall nutritional value of these foods. Moreover, both meat- and fruit-based canned products frequently contain added oils, salt, and sugar, contributing to weight gain when consumed regularly.

4. Butter and Other Dairy Products

Butter is a dairy product derived from the fat-rich top layer of raw cow’s milk, thus containing very high levels of fat. Similarly, other dairy products—including margarine and cheese—also have notably high fat content.

5. Fatty Meats and Animal Offal

Fatty meats and animal organs are rich in saturated fats and cholesterol—the two primary dietary contributors to heart disease. Dishes prepared using meat with both lean and fatty portions—such as braised pork belly (hong shao rou), steamed pork belly (kou rou), and marinated pork (lu rou)—are flavorful and succulent but extremely high in fat.

The above outlines common high-fat foods. We hope this information proves helpful.
