Heatstroke: Why do I feel cold when using a fan, and what should I do?
Feeling cold from a fan may be caused by sweat evaporation, heat dissipation, or heatstroke. The specific analysis is as follows:
1. Sweat Evaporation
When the body sweats, the evaporation of sweat creates a cooling sensation on the skin surface. The airflow from a fan accelerates sweat evaporation, leading to faster surface cooling of the body, which may result in the sensation of feeling cold when using a fan. This can be alleviated by reducing the duration of fan use.
2. Heat Dissipation
In high-temperature environments, the body continuously generates heat. A fan helps dissipate this heat by promoting air circulation around the body, effectively removing surrounding warmth and creating a cooler sensation, thus causing the aforementioned symptom.
3. Heatstroke
Heatstroke typically occurs after prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, rapid pulse, and rapid breathing; in severe cases, it may even lead to impaired consciousness. Therefore, heatstroke is also a major cause of this sensation.
Besides the above reasons, other conditions such as wind-cold感冒 (common cold due to wind and cold), rheumatoid arthritis, and kidney yang deficiency may also contribute. Although using a fan can help dissipate body heat and promote sweat evaporation, providing a cooling effect, it is not advisable to use fans for extended periods in hot environments. It is recommended to drink adequate fluids while using a fan.
