Introduction
A dull pain in the right abdomen when lying down may be caused by improper posture, overeating, lying down immediately after exercise, right ureteral stones, appendicitis, etc., and can be improved according to different situations. It is recommended to seek timely medical attention at a hospital and receive treatment under the guidance of a doctor. Adjust your lying position, and try to keep your body naturally stretched, maintaining the spine in its normal physiological curvature.

Dull pain in the right abdominal area when lying down may be caused by incorrect posture, overeating, lying down immediately after exercise, right ureteral stones, appendicitis, and other conditions. Improvements can be made according to the specific cause. It is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation at a hospital and receive treatment under the guidance of a physician.

  1. Incorrect Posture

If the body is in an improper position while lying down—such as twisting for prolonged periods or excessive bending of the waist—it may stretch or compress muscles, fascia, and other tissues in the right abdominal region. Similar to overstretching a rubber band, this can lead to localized pain. Adjust your lying position to keep the body naturally extended, maintaining the spine’s normal physiological curvature. Placing a thin pillow under the lower back and beneath the knees may help.

  2. Overeating

Lying down immediately after eating large amounts of food can impair digestion and peristalsis in the stomach and intestines. Accumulated food in the intestines increases pressure on the intestinal walls, potentially causing dull pain in the right abdomen. Avoid overeating and wait at least 1–2 hours after meals before lying down. Gently massaging the right abdomen in a clockwise circular motion may promote intestinal motility and relieve abdominal pressure and discomfort.

  3. Lying Down Immediately After Exercise

After intense physical activity, blood circulation is primarily directed toward active muscle groups. Lying down immediately afterward may leave the muscles in a tense state, contributing to dull pain in the right abdominal area. Instead of lying down right away, perform appropriate cool-down exercises to allow the body to gradually transition from activity to rest. Additionally, rehydrate moderately to aid recovery and reduce abdominal discomfort.

  4. Right Ureteral Stones

When stones form or move within the right ureter, they can irritate the ureteral wall, causing pain. This pain is often severe and colicky in nature, radiating to the perineal area. Symptoms may also include hematuria (blood in urine), frequent urination, and urgency. Since the ureter passes through the right abdominal region, dull pain may occur there. Under medical supervision, medications such as diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets, Pishili Granules, or Niaoshitong Granules may be used to manage symptoms.

  5. Appendicitis

The appendix is located in the lower right abdomen. When inflamed, it causes pain in the right abdominal area. In the early stages, the pain may be mild but typically worsens as the condition progresses. The pain may be constant or intermittent and may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and fever. Patients should follow medical advice and may require surgical interventions such as retrograde appendectomy or drainage of an appendiceal abscess.

It is recommended to maintain a light diet, avoiding spicy and irritating foods such as garlic, spicy hot pot, and mustard. Adequate rest is important, and excessive fatigue should be avoided to prevent adverse effects on health.
