Head feels swollen as soon as lying down
Lying down and experiencing head fullness or swelling may be caused by tension headaches, cervical spondylosis, hypertension, or other reasons. Treatment should be based on the specific condition. Details are as follows:
1. Tension Headache
This is mainly caused by excessive mental stress, fatigue, or similar factors leading to impaired blood circulation, resulting in a sensation of head fullness. Under medical guidance, medications such as enteric-coated aspirin tablets or diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets may be taken for treatment.
2. Cervical Spondylosis
In individuals with a history of cervical spondylosis, improper sleeping posture when lying down may easily compress local blood vessels and nerve roots, causing vertebrobasilar insufficiency and resulting in a feeling of head pressure or pain. Under medical supervision, medications such as diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets or Jingfukang granules may be used for treatment.
3. Hypertension
Hypertension can cause dilation of blood vessels in the head and face. When lying down, due to gravity, increased blood flow to the brain may lead to symptoms such as dizziness and headache. Medications such as amlodipine besylate and benazepril hydrochloride tablets (Ⅱ) or losartan potassium tablets may be taken as prescribed by a physician.
Besides the above causes, head fullness when lying down could also result from cerebral ischemia, brain hypoxia, intracranial hemorrhage, or other conditions. It is important to get adequate rest and avoid excessive mental exertion.
