Introduction
In general, Sanfu patches are not suitable for children under three years of age, children with sensitive skin, or those with skin wounds. Additionally, children suffering from pneumonia, those with yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity constitution, or those with damp-heat constitution should also avoid using Sanfu patches. Therefore, before applying Sanfu patches to children, it is recommended to consult a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) doctor to determine whether their individual constitution makes them suitable candidates for this treatment.

Generally, Sanfu patches are not suitable for children under three years of age, children with sensitive skin, or children who have skin wounds. The specific reasons are as follows:

1. Children under three years old

Sanfu patches are a form of traditional Chinese medicine that combines acupuncture and meridian therapy. Applied directly to specific acupoints, they can help alleviate certain diseases or discomforts. However, the medicinal properties of Sanfu patches are usually quite strong. Children under three have delicate skin, poor skin sensitivity, and limited ability to express themselves. They may not tolerate the irritation caused by the medication or withstand high temperatures, which could result in burns or skin damage. Additionally, they may be unable to communicate any discomfort accurately. Therefore, it is not recommended to use Sanfu patches on children under three years old.

2. Children with sensitive skin

As a type of medicated plaster, Sanfu patches must be applied directly onto the skin. Their ingredients may vary depending on the condition being treated. If a child already has sensitive skin, applying Sanfu patches is not advisable, as it may trigger allergic reactions such as red rashes, pain, or itching.

3. Children with skin wounds

If a child has broken or ulcerated skin, Sanfu patches should not be used. These patches are irritating, and applying them to damaged skin may aggravate the existing skin lesions and increase the risk of infection or pus formation.

Besides these three groups, Sanfu patches are also unsuitable for children suffering from pneumonia, those with yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity constitution, or those with damp-heat constitution. Therefore, before using Sanfu patches on a child, it is recommended to consult a doctor in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to determine suitability based on the child’s individual constitution. If use is necessary, it should be done at a reputable medical facility to avoid adverse reactions.
