Introduction
The Fengchi (GB20) acupoint has the functions of dispelling wind and clearing heat, as well as refreshing the mind and calming the spirit. When performing acupuncture at this point, deep insertion should be avoided; the desired needle sensation is a radiating soreness or pain localized to the area. Large-amplitude lifting, thrusting, twisting, or rotating movements are prohibited to prevent injury to the vertebral artery and medulla oblongata. The Fengchi (GB20) acupoint is located in the posterior neck, beneath the occipital bone, in the depression between the upper portion of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the upper portion of the trapezius muscle.

1. The patient sits upright with the head held still.
2. The practitioner locates the Fengchi acupoint, which is situated in the posterior neck region, beneath the occipital bone, in the depression between the upper portion of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the upper portion of the trapezius muscle, and disinfects the area with alcohol.
3. The left hand stabilizes the skin at the Fengchi point, while the right hand holds the needle. The needle tip is inserted inferomedially—toward the philtrum or nasal tip—with an appropriate depth of 0.5–0.8 cun.
4. After 30 minutes, remove the needle and apply pressure with a dry cotton swab to stop bleeding; the procedure is then complete.
