Abdominal paracentesis drainage procedure video
In general, abdominal paracentesis and drainage refers to the procedure of directly inserting a needle or catheter through the anterior abdominal wall into the peritoneal cavity to remove accumulated fluid. The specific steps are as follows:
1. Prior to the procedure, ultrasound is used to locate the puncture site, which is typically at the outer third of the line connecting the right anterior superior iliac spine to the umbilicus.
2. The patient lies in a supine position and receives general anesthesia.
3. After anesthesia is administered, the skin at the puncture site is disinfected.
4. The skin at the puncture site is incised, and under ultrasound guidance, a puncture needle is inserted. A guidewire is then passed through the needle.
5. The puncture needle is withdrawn, and a catheter is advanced over the guidewire into the abdominal cavity. The catheter is secured in place and connected to an external drainage tube, completing the procedure.
This procedure may cause some degree of physical trauma. It is recommended to undergo the procedure at a reputable hospital under the guidance of a qualified physician to minimize surgical risks. After the procedure, adequate rest is advised, and strenuous physical activity should be avoided.
