Generally, a nasopharyngeal swab refers to two collection methods: nasal swab and pharyngeal swab. It involves inserting a swab into the nasal cavity or pharynx to collect secretions for related tests, which can help diagnose conditions such as the common cold and bronchitis. Nasal Swab:

1. Instruct the person being tested to tilt their head backward, then insert the swab deep into their nasal cavity.

2. When the tip of the swab reaches the posterior wall of the nasopharynx, gently rotate it once, then withdraw the swab.

3. Place the swab into a specimen tube, tighten the cap securely, and send it for testing.

Pharyngeal Swab:

1. After wearing proper protective equipment, instruct the person being tested to tilt their head backward and open their mouth.

2. Insert the swab into the subject's pharynx, passing over the base of the tongue. Firmly rub the swab back and forth at least three times on each side of the tonsillar areas, then rub up and down at least three times against the posterior pharyngeal wall.

3. Remove the swab, place it into the specimen tube, break off the swab handle at the designated breakpoint, tightly close the tube cap, and send it for testing.
