Video of the entire ear tube placement procedure
Under normal circumstances, ear tube surgery refers to myringotomy with tube placement, a common treatment for middle ear effusion and recurrent otitis media. The specific procedure is as follows:
1. Position the patient supine with the affected ear facing upward, and administer general anesthesia.
2. After anesthesia takes effect, remove cerumen from the external auditory canal, and disinfect the auricle, surrounding areas, and ear canal with iodophor.
3. Use an otoscope or ear hook to expose the entrance of the ear canal, then make a radial or curved incision on the tympanic membrane using a myringotomy knife.
4. Use a suction device to completely remove fluid from the middle ear cavity. Then, grasp the tail end of the ventilation tube with alligator forceps and insert the front end of the tube into the incision in the tympanic membrane.
5. Leave the tail end of the ventilation tube outside the tympanic membrane so that the tube is securely positioned within the incision.
6. Check that the ventilation tube is properly placed. Once confirmed correct and no abnormalities are found, suture the incision site.
This procedure requires specialized expertise. It is recommended to undergo the surgery at a reputable hospital under the guidance of qualified medical professionals to minimize surgical risks. After surgery, proper daily care is important—avoid getting water in the ear to prevent infection.
