Nitrous Oxide Inhalation Anesthesia Procedure in Dental Outpatient Clinics

Introduction
After initiating nitrous oxide (N₂O) inhalation anesthesia, patients are first administered 100% oxygen for approximately five minutes before introducing nitrous oxide. The nitrous oxide concentration is then gradually increased until the patient achieves a comfortable level of sedation, at which point the concentration is maintained. Upon completion of the surgical or dental procedure, the nitrous oxide concentration is promptly reduced and then completely discontinued.

Nitrous oxide (N₂O) inhalation anesthesia requires no special preoperative preparation. At the onset of nitrous oxide administration, patients are first given 100% oxygen for approximately five minutes before nitrous oxide is introduced.

The concentration of nitrous oxide is then gradually increased until the patient achieves optimal comfort, at which point the concentration is maintained. Upon completion of surgery or dental treatment, the nitrous oxide concentration is promptly reduced and then completely discontinued. After discontinuation, patients receive 100% oxygen for an additional five minutes while vital signs—including respiration, blood pressure, and pulse—are closely monitored, typically via electrocardiographic (ECG) monitoring.

Once vital signs remain stable for five minutes following supplemental oxygen administration, patients are observed for a short additional period and may then be discharged without requiring any special post-procedure care.
