2. Abnormal Liver Function

Hepatic dysfunction can also lead to increased CPK levels. If the elevation is mild and isolated, it may not signify a serious condition. However, if liver disease is suspected as the underlying cause, further diagnostic workup is necessary to determine appropriate therapeutic interventions aimed at normalizing CPK levels.

3. Malnutrition

Prolonged malnutrition may also contribute to elevated CPK levels. In such cases, dietary supplementation with high-protein and nutrient-rich foods is recommended to improve overall nutritional status and subsequently normalize serum CPK levels.

4. Cardiovascular Diseases

Clinicians commonly associate elevated CPK levels with various cardiovascular conditions—including myocarditis, myocardial infarction, myocardial dystrophy, atrial fibrillation, cerebrovascular accidents (strokes), meningitis, or recent cardiac surgery—all of which may trigger CPK release.

5. Strenuous Physical Exercise

Intense physical activity prior to blood sampling—such as weight training, hiking, swimming, or running—can transiently elevate CPK levels. This reflects increased skeletal muscle turnover, as CPK is a sensitive marker of skeletal muscle activity. In such cases, patients may be advised to rest for approximately one week before repeat testing. A downward trend in CPK values over time typically obviates the need for specific treatment.
