How to flush a three-way urinary catheter
Triple-lumen catheters generally refer to three-channel urinary catheters, which are mainly used for irrigation with anti-inflammatory solution or normal saline. The irrigation procedure must be performed by a trained professional. The specific steps are as follows:
1. After the patient enters the treatment room, they should assume the lithotomy position. The doctor disinfects their hands and puts on sterile gloves, then performs routine disinfection of the patient's urethral area.
2. Connect a syringe to the third lumen of the triple-lumen catheter, and close the middle lumen at the same time.
3. Inject approximately 200 ml of sterile normal saline or anti-inflammatory solution into the third lumen. After five minutes, open the middle lumen to allow the saline to drain out.
Note: The urinary catheter should be replaced approximately once a month to prevent urinary tract infections caused by prolonged use.
