Bunion bone-setting manipulation technique
Hallux valgus refers to the lateral deviation and displacement of the big toe at the first metatarsophalangeal joint. Traditional Chinese bone-setting therapy uses manual techniques such as pushing, pulling, pressing, and manipulating to treat conditions like fractures and dislocations. This treatment should be performed by a qualified traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, and the specific procedures are as follows:
1. After cleaning the affected limb, the patient lies on the treatment table in a supine position.
2. The physician places fingers on the patient's big toe, applying downward pressure perpendicularly while gently rotating and moving the big toe toward the medial side of the foot.
3. After manipulation, rubber bands are placed over two toes to perform traction in opposite left-right directions.
If symptoms persist despite bone-setting treatment, surgical intervention may be considered. Common surgical procedures include adductor hallucis tenotomy and proximal osteotomy of the first metatarsal.
