What causes thickening of the gastric antral wall?
Thickening of the gastric antral wall may be caused by physiological changes, Helicobacter pylori infection, gastritis, gastric ulcers, or gastric polyps.
1. Physiological changes
Gastric contraction may lead to thickening of the gastric antral wall, which usually does not cause obvious symptoms. It is typically only detected during endoscopic examination and generally does not require specific treatment.
2. Helicobacter pylori infection
Infection with Helicobacter pylori may trigger inflammation, irritate the gastric mucosa, and lead to mucosal hyperplasia and thickening of the gastric antral wall. It is recommended to take medications such as amoxicillin capsules, clarithromycin granules, omeprazole enteric-coated capsules, and citric acid bismuth potassium granules under medical guidance to help relieve symptoms.
3. Gastritis
Frequent alcohol consumption, eating spicy or irritating foods, overeating, and other factors may irritate the gastric mucosa, causing inflammatory reactions that result in gastritis and thickening of the gastric antral wall, leading to symptoms such as bloating, nausea, and vomiting. It is recommended to take medications such as domperidone tablets, itopride hydrochloride tablets, or mosapride citrate tablets under medical supervision to enhance gastric motility and improve symptoms.
4. Gastric ulcer
In patients with gastric ulcers, inflammatory stimulation may cause inflammation and edema of the gastric antral mucosa, resulting in apparent thickening of the gastric antral wall during endoscopy. It is recommended to take medications such as rabeprazole sodium enteric-coated tablets, ranitidine hydrochloride capsules, or famotidine tablets under medical guidance to suppress gastric acid secretion and alleviate symptoms.
5. Gastric polyps
Gastric polyps refer to papillary tissue growths on the surface of the gastric mucosa, which may irritate the mucosa due to inflammation. When polyps are large or numerous, they may cause thickening of the gastric antral wall, leading to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and upper abdominal pain. It is recommended to undergo surgical treatments such as high-frequency electrocoagulation or laser ablation under medical supervision based on the specific condition to remove the polyps and relieve symptoms.
Patients are advised to seek medical evaluation at a hospital for thorough examination and accurate diagnosis, followed by appropriate treatment under medical guidance to control disease progression and alleviate symptoms. During treatment, it is important to develop healthy lifestyle and dietary habits, get adequate rest, and avoid consuming irritating foods.
