What causes fever during the postpartum recovery period (small month)?
Post-abortion fever, commonly referred to as "small month" fever, generally refers to fever occurring during the puerperium after induced abortion. It may be caused by factors such as catching a chill, reproductive system infections, incomplete abortion, mastitis, or pelvic inflammatory disease.
1. Catching a Chill
After an induced abortion, the body has not fully recovered and immunity is low, making it easier to catch a cold, which can lead to fever accompanied by joint pain, cough, and runny nose. Pay attention to staying warm. Symptomatic relief can be achieved with medications such as amantadine caffeine and honeysuckle capsule, Ganmao Ling granules, or感冒Qingre granules, taken as directed by a physician.
2. Reproductive System Infection
Failing to maintain proper genital hygiene after an abortion may result in bacterial or other pathogenic microbial infections of the reproductive system, leading to fever. Maintain good genital cleanliness and hygiene, and under medical guidance, use antibiotics such as Penicillin V potassium tablets, Metronidazole tablets, or Amoxicillin capsules, which help inhibit or kill bacteria and improve symptoms.
3. Incomplete Abortion
In cases of surgical or medical abortion, incomplete expulsion of embryonic or fetal tissue may leave residual material in the uterine cavity, triggering infection and causing symptoms such as fever and abnormal vaginal bleeding. Prompt medical evaluation is recommended. A dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure should be performed by a qualified physician, along with anti-inflammatory medication such as Cefdinir dispersible tablets, Roxithromycin capsules, or Azithromycin capsules.
4. Mastitis
Bacterial invasion of breast tissue causing mastitis may trigger an immune response, including fever. It is recommended to drink plenty of water and rest adequately. Under medical supervision, take antibiotics such as Cefixime capsules, Cefaclor capsules, or Cefradine capsules. If body temperature becomes too high, antipyretic medications such as ibuprofen suspension, acetaminophen suspension, or compound paracetamol and amantadine tablets may be taken as prescribed to reduce fever and alleviate symptoms.
5. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
During the abortion procedure, the female genital tract and cervix may sustain injury, allowing bacteria easier access into the pelvic cavity and resulting in pelvic inflammation. This triggers an immune response, including fever, to help the body fight the infection. Under medical guidance, treatment may include medications such as Ofloxacin tablets, Azithromycin capsules, or Metronidazole tablets to eliminate pathogens and relieve symptoms.
It is advisable to seek medical care for thorough evaluation and accurate diagnosis, and to receive appropriate treatment under professional guidance to prevent worsening of symptoms. During the post-abortion recovery period, adequate rest and a nutritious diet are essential to support physical recovery.
