Introduction
In general, watery discharge after a dilation and curettage (D&C) may result from normal recovery, trichomoniasis infection, poor uterine involution, postoperative infection, or retained products of conception. In addition, persistent watery discharge after D&C could also be caused by cervical cancer. Patients are advised to seek timely diagnosis and treatment.

Under normal circumstances, watery discharge following a curettage may be caused by normal recovery process, trichomoniasis infection, poor uterine involution, postoperative infection, intrauterine residue, or other reasons. Timely examination is necessary to establish an accurate diagnosis, and treatment—either through medication or surgery—should be administered under a doctor's guidance. Specific causes are analyzed as follows:

1. Normal Recovery Process

After surgery, the endometrium requires time to repair and recover. During this period, small amounts of watery vaginal discharge may occur, which is considered normal.

2. Trichomoniasis Infection

Trichomoniasis infection typically presents with watery vaginal discharge that has a fishy odor and is accompanied by itching. Patients are advised to follow medical instructions and take medications such as tinidazole tablets or metronidazole tablets for treatment.

3. Poor Uterine Involution

In some patients, reduced uterine contractility after curettage leads to inadequate uterine involution, resulting in prolonged discharge of uterine secretions. Under medical supervision, drugs such as oxytocin or epinephrine may be used for treatment.

4. Postoperative Infection

If local hygiene and care are not properly maintained after curettage, it may lead to intrauterine infection, causing continuous discharge. Under a doctor’s guidance, medications such as metronidazole tablets or amoxicillin capsules can be used to improve the condition.

5. Intrauterine Residue

If tissue remains in the uterine cavity after surgery, secondary infection may develop, leading to persistent discharge. A repeat curettage procedure may be performed under medical guidance to clear the uterine cavity. After the procedure, antibiotics such as cefixime tablets or levofloxacin capsules should be taken to control infection.

In addition, persistent watery discharge after curettage could also be caused by cervical cancer. Patients are advised to seek prompt diagnosis and timely treatment.
