Introduction
Brittle bones may be caused by prolonged bed rest, nutritional deficiencies, osteoporosis, osteogenesis imperfecta, fluorosis, or other reasons. If a patient remains bedridden for a long time, the lower limbs may not receive sufficient external mechanical stimulation, leading to increased bone resorption and reduced bone formation. When the patient suddenly starts bearing weight upon standing or walking, excessive loading may result in pathological fractures of the lower limbs.

In general, brittle bones may be caused by prolonged bed rest, nutritional deficiencies, osteoporosis, osteogenesis imperfecta, skeletal fluorosis, or other reasons. A detailed analysis is as follows:

1. Prolonged Bed Rest

If a patient remains in bed for an extended period, the lower limbs may not receive sufficient external mechanical stimulation, leading to increased bone destruction and reduced bone formation. When the patient suddenly begins walking or bearing weight, excessive loading may result in pathological fractures of the lower limbs. It is recommended that patients follow medical advice to use medications such as methylene diphosphonate tin (for injection) and calcium carbonate D3 granules (II) for treatment.

2. Nutritional Deficiency

If a person has a highly selective diet, such as eating only vegetarian foods, calcium deficiency due to inadequate dietary intake may occur. Under medical guidance, supplements such as calcium citrate tablets or calcium gluconate tablets can be used.

3. Osteoporosis

As age increases, bodily functions gradually decline. Elderly individuals may develop osteoporosis due to changes in hormonal levels. It is recommended to follow medical advice and use medications such as alendronate sodium tablets or alfacalcidol soft capsules for treatment.

4. Osteogenesis Imperfecta

Osteogenesis imperfecta is a group of congenital genetic disorders characterized primarily by reduced collagen production in bone tissue, which subsequently increases bone fragility. Patients are advised to follow medical recommendations and use medications such as salmon calcitonin injection or vitamin AD soft capsules for treatment.

5. Skeletal Fluorosis

If living conditions are poor, skeletal fluorosis may develop due to long-term consumption of water with high fluoride content. It is recommended to follow medical advice and use medications such as calcium carbonate D3 tablets or compound aluminum hydroxide tablets to reduce fluoride absorption.

In addition, brittle bones may also occur in cases of bony edema. Patients are advised to seek timely medical treatment to prevent worsening of the condition.
