Is it appropriate to have a breast ultrasound on the second day after menstruation ends?
Breast color ultrasound refers to breast color Doppler ultrasound examination. Generally, it is not appropriate to undergo breast color Doppler ultrasound on the second day after menstruation ends. The specific reasons are as follows.
The optimal time for women to undergo breast color Doppler ultrasound is 3–5 days after the end of menstruation. During menstruation, the body secretes large amounts of estrogen, which can stimulate glandular hyperplasia and may easily be confused with small nodules. Three to five days after menstruation ends, estrogen secretion decreases compared to the menstrual period, thereby improving the accuracy of the examination. Therefore, undergoing breast color Doppler ultrasound on the second day after menstruation is not ideal. It is recommended that patients schedule this examination 3–5 days after their menstrual period ends.
It is also recommended that patients wear separate pants and tops when undergoing breast color Doppler ultrasound, as this allows easy removal of the upper garment and ensures full exposure of the breasts and axillary areas. If any abnormalities or discomfort are detected during the examination, patients should seek medical attention promptly and receive standardized treatment under a doctor's guidance, which can facilitate recovery.
