Why can eggs be retrieved during the menstrual period?
Generally speaking, there is no such thing as egg retrieval during the menstrual period. Egg retrieval is not recommended during menstruation, and the specific reasons are as follows:
Egg retrieval is usually performed under ultrasound guidance by puncturing the follicles through the posterior fornix of the vagina to collect the eggs. During the menstrual period, the endometrium naturally sheds, and performing egg retrieval at this time may increase the risk of endometriosis. Therefore, egg retrieval is not advised during menstruation. Instead, it is typically recommended to perform the procedure on days 2–3 after menstruation ends, when the endometrial thickness is more suitable. Retrieving eggs at this time reduces stimulation to the endometrium and helps improve the success rate of in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Prior to egg retrieval, it's important to get adequate rest and avoid excessive fatigue. Maintaining a positive mood and minimizing mental stress are also essential. Additionally, enhancing nutritional intake by consuming high-quality protein foods, fresh fruits, and vegetables can strengthen the immune system and support overall health.
