Introduction
Artificial abortion, also known as induced abortion, is a surgical procedure to terminate pregnancy within 24 weeks of gestation, with vacuum aspiration being the most common method. After the procedure, patients should maintain genital hygiene, avoid tub baths and sexual intercourse for one month, monitor vaginal bleeding, get adequate rest, and return for follow-up visits promptly if any discomfort occurs.

Abortion, also known as induced abortion, is a surgical procedure to terminate pregnancy within 24 weeks of gestation. The most common method is vacuum aspiration. The specific steps are as follows:

1. Before the surgery, the patient should empty her bladder. The physician must wear a cap, mask, sterile gown, and sterile gloves after thorough handwashing.

2. The patient assumes the lithotomy position. The external genitalia and vagina are routinely disinfected, sterile drapes are placed, and the position, size of the uterus, and conditions of bilateral adnexa are examined.

3. A speculum is used to dilate the vagina. The vagina and cervical canal are disinfected, and the anterior lip of the cervix is grasped with a cervical clamp.

4. A uterine sound is used to determine the direction and depth of the uterine cavity, followed by gradual and gentle dilation of the cervical os using cervical dilators.

5. The suction cannula is connected to the vacuum aspirator and slowly inserted through the vagina to the fundus of the uterus. Appropriate negative pressure is applied according to gestational age and uterine cavity size. After ensuring complete removal of the gestational sac and surrounding tissues, check the cervical os for active bleeding.

6. Withdraw the suction cannula from the vagina and examine the evacuated tissue for completeness of chorionic villi. Measure blood loss. If villi are not visually identified, the tissue should be sent for pathological examination.

After the procedure, the patient should maintain good genital hygiene, avoid sitz baths and sexual intercourse for one month, monitor vaginal bleeding, get adequate rest, and return for follow-up if any discomfort occurs.
