How is a colposcopy performed?
Generally, colposcopy refers to a colposcopic examination, which can be used to check for abnormalities in the vagina and cervix. The specific procedure is as follows:
1. After emptying the bladder, the patient assumes the lithotomy position, and the vulva and vagina are routinely disinfected.
2. A vaginal speculum is used to expose the cervicovaginal portion, followed by disinfection of the vagina and cervix.
3. Gently wipe away cervical secretions and mucus with a cotton ball, then observe the morphology, size, color, and other characteristics of the cervix.
4. Position the colposcope’s objective lens 15–20 cm from the vaginal opening, aim it at the uterine cervix or the suspected lesion area, turn on the light source, and adjust the focus of the colposcope to obtain a clear image.
5. Apply a cotton ball soaked in 3%–5% acetic acid to the cervical surface, wait 1–2 minutes, and observe any color changes to identify suspicious lesions.
6. Take a biopsy from the suspicious lesion site and send it for pathological examination.
If this procedure is needed, it is recommended to go to a正规 hospital and have it performed under the guidance of a qualified physician to avoid unnecessary injury. If any abnormalities occur, seek medical attention promptly to prevent delays in diagnosis and treatment. Maintaining good personal hygiene in daily life contributes to overall health.
