How to read a blood test report

Introduction
In general, blood test reports are interpreted by examining indicators such as white blood cells, hemoglobin, platelets, red blood cells, and hematocrit. White blood cells are components of the body's immune system and include five types: lymphocytes, monocytes, etc. The normal range for white blood cells in adults is 3.5–9.5 × 10⁹/L. Hemoglobin is a protein found within red blood cells.

In general, a blood test report should be interpreted by examining indicators such as white blood cells, hemoglobin, platelets, red blood cells, and hematocrit. The specific analysis is as follows:

1. White Blood Cells (WBC): White blood cells are components of the body's immune system and include five types, such as lymphocytes and monocytes. The normal range for white blood cells in adults is 3.5–9.5 × 10⁹/L.

2. Hemoglobin: Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells and is an important parameter in routine blood tests, reflecting the body's ability to produce red blood cells. The normal hemoglobin range for adult males is 120–160 g/L, and for adult females, it is 110–150 g/L.

3. Platelets: Platelets are the primary functional cells involved in early hemostasis and are used to diagnose blood disorders and monitor treatment efficacy. The normal platelet count typically ranges from 100 × 10⁹/L to 300 × 10⁹/L.

4. Red Blood Cells (RBC): Red blood cells are essential for transporting oxygen and carbon dioxide in the body and are used to monitor various types of anemia. The normal RBC count for adult males is 4.0–5.5 × 10¹²/L, and for adult females, it is 3.5–5.0 × 10¹²/L.

5. Hematocrit: Hematocrit refers to the proportion of red blood cells in a given volume of blood and is a common parameter in routine blood tests. The normal range for hematocrit in males is 0.40–0.50, and in females, it is 0.35–0.45.

If any of the above indicators are abnormal, it is recommended to promptly identify the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment.
