What does hemorrhoids look like?
Generally, hemorrhoids can be classified into external hemorrhoids, internal hemorrhoids, and mixed hemorrhoids. Different types present with distinct appearances, as detailed below:
Internal hemorrhoids are covered by mucous membrane and located above the dentate line, formed by the internal hemorrhoidal venous plexus, commonly found in three locations: the left lateral, right anterior, and right posterior positions. During anoscopy or visual anal examination, they appear as hemispherical protrusions of varying sizes at the distal rectum. External hemorrhoids are covered by skin and located below the dentate line, formed by the external hemorrhoidal venous plexus. They manifest as varicose venous clusters or excess skin tags around the anal opening. When acute thrombosis occurs, they present as dark purple, oval-shaped masses around the anus, with swollen surface skin, firm texture, and significant tenderness. Mixed hemorrhoids result from the fusion of internal and external hemorrhoidal venous plexuses. Their surface is covered by either anal canal skin or rectal mucosa, and they may simultaneously exhibit clinical features of both internal and external hemorrhoids.
Note: Regardless of the type of hemorrhoid, it is important to seek timely medical evaluation and treatment at a正规 hospital to prevent worsening of the condition.
