Introduction
In general, contraindications for Andrographis paniculata include avoiding concurrent use with tonic Chinese herbs during treatment, not recommended for individuals with deficiency-cold of the spleen and stomach, refraining from consuming radish during medication, should not be used long-term, and contraindicated in pregnant women. Andrographis paniculata has the effect of cooling blood and reducing swelling. If tonic Chinese herbs are taken after using Andrographis paniculata, it may lead to drug ineffectiveness and worsening of the condition.

Generally, the contraindications for Andrographis paniculata (Chuanxinlian) include avoiding tonic Chinese herbs during medication, unsuitability for individuals with deficiency-cold of the spleen and stomach, refraining from eating radish while taking the medicine, not using it for prolonged periods, and prohibition for pregnant women. If any discomfort occurs, prompt medical attention is recommended. Specific analysis is as follows:

1. Do not take tonic Chinese herbal medicines concurrently during treatment: Andrographis has the effect of cooling blood and reducing swelling. Taking tonic Chinese herbs after using Andrographis may render the medication ineffective and potentially worsen the condition.

2. Not suitable for individuals with deficiency-cold of the spleen and stomach: Andrographis is bitter and cold in nature, which can injure the stomach. For those with pre-existing deficiency-cold of the spleen and stomach, its use may exacerbate related symptoms.

3. Avoid eating radish during treatment: Radish is a common vegetable. Patients should avoid consuming radish while taking Andrographis, as it may reduce the drug's potency and impair therapeutic effectiveness.

4. Not suitable for long-term use: Andrographis may damage the stomach. Prolonged use could impair the yang energy of the spleen and stomach, leading to adverse symptoms.

5. Prohibited for pregnant women: Andrographis can antagonize progesterone and inhibit the formation of chorionic trophoblastic cells. Its use during pregnancy may induce miscarriage.

Patients should use Andrographis only under the guidance of a physician to prevent adverse effects. During treatment, maintain a light diet and avoid spicy or irritating foods that might interfere with the drug’s efficacy.
