What causes eye fatigue?
Eye fatigue may be caused by factors such as eye strain, unbalanced diet, dry eye syndrome, conjunctivitis, or myasthenia gravis. It is recommended to seek medical attention promptly, identify the underlying cause, and receive symptomatic treatment under a doctor's guidance. Specific analysis is as follows:
1. Eye strain: Prolonged use of electronic devices or poor reading environments may lead to sustained tension in the muscles around the eyes, resulting in eye fatigue. This condition may also be accompanied by symptoms such as blurred vision and dry eyes. It is advisable to rest the eyes appropriately, look into the distance periodically, and massage acupoints such as Yintang (between the eyebrows), Sibai, and Taiyang to help relieve discomfort.
2. Unbalanced diet: Deficiencies in nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E, or excessive sugar intake, may impair normal eye function and contribute to eye fatigue, often accompanied by symptoms like dryness and redness of the eyes. It is recommended to adjust the diet by consuming foods rich in these nutrients—such as carrots, oranges, and spinach—and reducing sugar intake to help alleviate eye fatigue.
3. Dry eye syndrome: Poor tear quality or insufficient tear production may cause dryness on the eye surface, leading to eye tiredness. Patients may also experience symptoms such as a foreign body sensation or eye swelling. It is recommended to use medications such as sodium hyaluronate eye drops, fluorometholone eye drops, or Jinzhen eye drops as prescribed by a physician.
4. Conjunctivitis: Inflammation of the conjunctiva may result from microbial infections or allergies, causing eye fatigue. Additional symptoms may include redness and pain in the eyes. Treatment should target the underlying cause, including anti-infective therapy when necessary. It is recommended to use medications such as chloramphenicol eye drops, ofloxacin eye drops, or ganciclovir eye drops as directed by a healthcare provider.
5. Myasthenia gravis: This is a serious neurological disorder potentially linked to pathogen infection or genetic factors, which may cause severe eye fatigue. Other symptoms may include restricted eye movement and ptosis (drooping eyelids). It is recommended to take medications such as prednisone acetate tablets, cyclosporine soft capsules, or methylprednisolone tablets as prescribed by a doctor.
In daily life, it is advisable to maintain regular sleep patterns, avoid excessive fatigue, engage in moderate physical activity, eat a balanced diet, and maintain a positive mental state. If symptoms persist or worsen, prompt medical consultation is recommended.
