Introduction
In general, double vision may be caused by conditions such as astigmatism, medication side effects, macular edema, floaters, or cataracts. When any of these occur, prompt medical evaluation and treatment are recommended. Astigmatism typically results from refractive errors in the eye, causing light to fail to focus properly on the retina and instead form multiple focal points, leading to double vision.

In general, double vision may be caused by astigmatism, medication side effects, macular edema, floaters, cataracts, or other reasons. When the above conditions occur, timely medical evaluation and treatment are recommended. Specific analyses are as follows:

1. Astigmatism: Astigmatism is usually caused by refractive errors in the eye, leading to light failing to focus properly on the retina and instead forming multiple focal points, thereby causing double vision. Early medical consultation and correction with glasses are recommended.

2. Medication side effects: Certain medications may irritate ocular nerves. This irritation can disrupt normal nerve signal transmission in the eyes, resulting in double vision. It is advisable to adjust dosage or switch medications under a doctor's guidance.

3. Macular edema: Macular edema refers to inflammatory reactions and fluid infiltration in the macula—the central part of the retina—causing swelling. This typically alters the macula’s normal structure and impairs its ability to focus light, leading to blurred vision and double vision. Symptoms may be relieved with medications such as triamcinolone acetonide injection, acetazolamide tablets, or dexamethasone sodium phosphate injection, as directed by a physician.

4. Floaters: Floaters are actually caused by degenerative changes or liquefaction of the vitreous gel inside the eye, leading to floating dark spots in the visual field or accompanying flashes of light. These changes may interfere with the normal transmission and focusing of light, potentially causing double vision. Treatment may include drugs such as choline iodide complex capsules, vancomycin hydrochloride for injection, or ceftazidime for injection, used according to medical advice.

5. Cataracts: Cataracts are a visual disorder caused by clouding of the lens. Since the lens is a key refractive medium within the eye, its opacity prevents light from properly focusing on the retina, possibly resulting in blurred vision and double vision. Discomfort may be alleviated with medications such as glutathione tablets, faropenem ophthalmic solution, or pirenoxine ophthalmic solution, based on a doctor's recommendations.

In daily life, maintaining good living habits and practicing proper eye hygiene, avoiding excessive eye strain and eye injuries, can help prevent eye diseases.
