What causes urethral pain?
Under normal circumstances, urethral pain may be caused by excessive masturbation, trauma, urethritis, prostatitis, or urethral stones. It is recommended to seek medical attention promptly, identify the underlying cause, and receive symptomatic treatment under a doctor's guidance. Specific analyses are as follows:
1. Excessive masturbation: If one frequently engages in masturbation, it may damage the corpora cavernosa, leading to pain at the urethral opening. Avoiding excessive masturbation and allowing time for rest typically enables recovery.
2. Trauma: If the urethra sustains physical injury, mucosal damage may result in pain and swelling. In such cases, cold compresses may be applied as directed by a physician to reduce swelling and relieve pain. Cold compress application should be limited to 5–10 minutes.
3. Urethritis: This condition is primarily caused by gonococcal or non-gonococcal infections leading to inflammation of the urethra. Inflammatory irritation can cause symptoms such as urethral itching, frequent urination, and significant urethral pain. Patients may take medications such as roxithromycin tablets, azithromycin capsules, or cefixime capsules as prescribed by their doctor.
4. Prostatitis: This may be associated with poor lifestyle habits or pathogen infection. If left untreated, the inflammation may spread to the urethra, causing urethral pain, often accompanied by fever, fatigue, and perineal pain. Patients should take medications such as ciprofloxacin hydrochloride tablets, amoxicillin tablets, or minocycline hydrochloride capsules as directed by their physician.
5. Urethral stones: These may be related to infections or foreign bodies in the urethra. As stones grow larger, they can damage the urethral mucosa, resulting in urethral pain and difficulty urinating. Patients may undergo extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy as prescribed to clear the urethra.
In daily life, adequate rest should be maintained and strenuous exercise avoided. Diet-wise, spicy and irritating foods such as chili peppers and pepper should be avoided. Consuming more fresh vegetables and fruits can help reduce irritation to the urethra.
