What causes coughing and lung pain?
In general, cough accompanied by lung pain may be caused by severe coughing, colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, or other conditions. It is recommended to seek medical attention promptly, identify the underlying cause, and receive appropriate treatment under a doctor's guidance. Specific causes are analyzed as follows:
1. Severe Coughing: If coughing is particularly intense, it may strain the muscles in the lungs, leading to pain. This is considered normal. Following medical advice, applying a warm towel compress may help relieve discomfort.
2. Cold: When the body's immunity decreases, it becomes susceptible to external bacterial or viral infections, resulting in a cold. If left untreated, symptoms such as severe coughing and phlegm production may develop, potentially damaging the lungs and causing pain. Patients may take antiviral oral solution, Lianhua Qingwen capsules, or Ganmaoling granules as directed by a physician.
3. Bronchitis: Caused by microbial infections or physical/chemical irritation, bronchitis mainly presents with cough and sputum production. In severe cases, intense coughing can lead to lung pain. Patients should take medications such as azithromycin tablets, cefaclor tablets, or cefadroxil capsules as prescribed.
4. Pneumonia: A lung infection caused by bacteria, viruses, or other microorganisms, often accompanied by fever, cough, and sputum. Inflammation may damage lung tissue, resulting in pain. Treatment should follow a doctor’s recommendations and may include acyclovir tablets, amoxicillin capsules, or roxithromycin tablets.
5. Tuberculosis: Caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, this condition often leads to impaired lung function and symptoms such as cough, sputum, and difficulty breathing. Lung pain during coughing may be particularly noticeable. Patients must follow medical advice for treatment, commonly using rifampicin tablets, pyrazinamide tablets, and carbazochrome tablets.
In daily life, proper dietary management is important. Drink plenty of warm water and avoid spicy or irritating foods such as fatty meat, raw fish, and chili peppers. Maintain a light diet, refrain from smoking, and stay away from polluted environments.
