What causes cold knees?
The knee refers to the knee joint. In general, a cold sensation in the knee joint may be caused by unsuitable environments, chilling, lower extremity varicose veins, synovitis, or rheumatoid arthritis. It is recommended to seek medical attention promptly, identify the underlying cause, and receive appropriate treatment. Specific analyses are as follows:
1. Unsuitable Environment
If one remains in a damp environment for a prolonged period, the knee joint area may feel cold, accompanied by symptoms such as local pain and stiffness. It is advised to avoid such unfavorable environments or apply warm compresses with a heated towel to the knee joint to alleviate symptoms.
2. Chilling
Inadequate warmth protection for the knee joint may lead to chilling, resulting in a cold sensation in the knee, along with restricted movement and pain. Proper warming and insulation of the knee joint are recommended.
3. Lower Extremity Varicose Veins
This may be caused by impaired venous valve function, potentially leading to poor circulation in the lower limbs, thereby causing a cold sensation in the knee joint, feelings of heaviness in the legs, and edema. If necessary, high ligation and stripping of the great saphenous vein under medical guidance may be required to relieve discomfort.
4. Synovitis
Usually caused by infection, synovitis can easily lead to fluid accumulation in the knee joint, resulting in symptoms such as a cold sensation and swelling in the knee. Treatment may include medications such as methylprednisolone tablets, sodium hyaluronate injection, and celecoxib capsules, used according to medical advice.
5. Rheumatoid Arthritis
Generally caused by abnormal immune function, this condition may impair local blood circulation, leading to discomfort such as a cold sensation, swelling, and morning stiffness in the knee joint. Medications such as Qingpeng ointment, hydroxychloroquine sulfate tablets, and azathioprine tablets may be used under medical supervision.
Regular physical exercise, such as running, swimming, jumping rope, and cycling, is recommended in daily life to improve physical fitness and enhance resistance.
