Can I take a shower and wash my hair three days after a miscarriage?
In general, if the patient is in good physical condition and has no abnormal symptoms, showering and washing hair are permissible, but attention should be paid to staying warm and maintaining hygiene.
If three days after miscarriage, it is confirmed that the miscarriage is complete, vaginal bleeding is minimal, and there are no other significant clinical symptoms such as severe abdominal pain or fever, showering and washing hair are usually acceptable. However, adequate warming measures should be taken to prevent catching a cold. Only showers—not bath soaking—should be used to reduce the risk of infection. The water temperature should be comfortable, avoiding extremes of hot or cold that could shock the body. After washing hair, it should be dried immediately with a towel and thoroughly blow-dried to prevent colds.
However, if three days after miscarriage the patient still has an incomplete miscarriage, heavy bleeding, or experiences abnormal symptoms such as significant abdominal pain or fever, showering and hair washing are generally not recommended. The patient should first return to the obstetrics and gynecology department for evaluation and treatment, and only consider showering and washing hair once her condition has improved.
During the recovery period after miscarriage, patients should maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the external genital area, wash the perineum daily, and change sanitary pads promptly.
