Can I undergo contrast-enhanced CT scan during my menstrual period?
Enhanced CT is an imaging examination performed on the basis of non-contrast CT by intravenously injecting a contrast agent for diagnostic purposes. Generally, it is acceptable to undergo enhanced CT scanning during menstruation.
Menstruation is not a contraindication for enhanced CT, as undergoing this examination during the menstrual period typically does not interfere with imaging signals or affect diagnostic accuracy. Additionally, the procedure itself will not impact the menstrual cycle or cause irregularities. Therefore, enhanced CT can be safely performed during menstruation, primarily to rule out organ or tissue abnormalities, including those in the liver, lungs, kidneys, and other organs.
However, certain precautions should be observed when undergoing enhanced CT regardless of circumstances. For example, patients are generally required to fast, avoid food and drink the day before the examination to prevent aspiration in case of vomiting during the procedure. It is also important to be aware of personal medical history; if you have a known allergy to contrast agents, inform your doctor in advance to avoid improper management that could worsen allergic reactions. On the day of the exam, avoid wearing any metal objects such as necklaces, earrings, or other jewelry, as these may interfere with CT signals or create artifacts that compromise image quality.
If you have any concerns regarding enhanced CT or similar procedures, consult a physician promptly and follow their instructions. Additionally, remain calm and relaxed before the examination to minimize anxiety or stress. After the scan, ensure adequate rest to avoid excessive fatigue.
