Introduction
Women with regular menstrual cycles and timely ovulation can usually detect pregnancy at one month after their last period. However, if the menstrual cycle is irregular, affecting normal ovulation and embryo implantation, a pregnancy test at one month may not accurately rule out pregnancy. In such cases, it is advisable to observe for a longer period before performing a self-test, or to seek medical testing at a hospital.

Menstruation refers to a woman's physiological cycle, while pregnancy means gestation. Under normal circumstances, based on a regular menstrual cycle, when one month has passed since the last period, the fertilized egg has typically already implanted in the uterine lining, and pregnancy can usually be detected at this stage. However, considering certain special factors—such as irregular menstrual cycles or delayed ovulation—the timing of embryo implantation may change, making it possible that pregnancy cannot yet be detected even after one full month since the last period. The details are as follows:

Based on a standard menstrual cycle, most women have cycles lasting 28–35 days. If a woman’s periods are consistently regular and predictable without prior deviations, by the time one month has passed since her last period, the fertilized egg has generally already implanted, and the concentration of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in her body may have doubled significantly. At this point, using a pregnancy test strip or home pregnancy test kit will usually yield an accurate result. However, for best accuracy, first-morning urine is recommended, as it provides higher hormone concentrations and improves detection reliability.

For women with irregular menstrual cycles, ovulation timing may be inconsistent, and delayed ovulation is common. As a result, the implantation of the fertilized egg may also be postponed. Therefore, even if one full month has passed since the last period, pregnancy might still not be detectable. In such cases, it is advisable to wait and observe for another 7–10 days before retesting with a home pregnancy test kit, or undergo a urine HCG test for confirmation.

You may begin by using the methods described above. If your period continues to be significantly delayed and is accompanied by symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, it is important to seek medical attention promptly. A healthcare provider can perform appropriate examinations to determine the cause of the delayed menstruation. During this time, maintaining a positive mindset and avoiding excessive stress is also essential.
