Can peppermint water be consumed every day?
In general, it is not recommended to drink peppermint water every day.
Peppermint is considered cooling in nature. Drinking peppermint water daily may increase the body's internal coldness, potentially leading to symptoms such as cold hands and feet, frequent diarrhea, and sensitivity to wind and cold. It may also cause digestive issues like abdominal cramps and increased frequency of diarrhea, as well as worsen feelings of chills. Components in peppermint—such as catechol naphthoate acid, large amounts of volatile oils, menthol, and menthone—may affect the endocrine and nervous systems when consumed daily over time.
If you experience symptoms of internal heat, such as dry mouth, sore throat, or constipation, drinking peppermint water in moderation may help relieve discomfort. However, even in these cases, daily consumption is still not advisable. Long-term and excessive exposure of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa to peppermint's volatile oils may cause mucosal dryness, gradually increasing sensations of dryness and irritation in the mouth and throat.
It is recommended to consume peppermint water in moderation according to individual constitution to avoid adverse physical reactions.
