Introduction
Wisdom tooth extraction is generally divided into three methods: conventional extraction, surgical flap extraction, and ultrasonic bone scalpel extraction. The corresponding costs are: conventional extraction, 200–500 yuan per tooth; surgical flap extraction, 500–1,000 yuan per tooth; and ultrasonic bone scalpel extraction, 800–2,000 yuan per tooth. For the removal of all four wisdom teeth, different extraction methods should be selected based on the individual growth conditions of each tooth.

Wisdom tooth extraction generally involves three surgical methods: conventional extraction, flap surgery with incision, and ultrasonic bone scalpel extraction. The corresponding costs for wisdom tooth removal are as follows: conventional extraction, 200–500 RMB per tooth; flap surgery with incision, 500–1,000 RMB per tooth; ultrasonic bone scalpel extraction, 800–2,000 RMB per tooth. For the removal of four wisdom teeth, different extraction methods may be selected based on the growth condition of each individual tooth, thereby determining the total cost. Factors influencing the cost of wisdom tooth extraction include the tooth's growth pattern, number and shape of roots, and regional differences.

Principle

The wisdom tooth is loosened using a dental elevator, then grasped with forceps at the crown or root and removed.

An incision is made in the gum tissue, which is then reflected to expose the wisdom tooth and part of the alveolar bone. The tooth is then extracted using conventional techniques.

The ultrasonic bone scalpel precisely cuts the alveolar bone, minimizing damage to surrounding tissues and providing effective hemostasis during cutting.

Indications

Suitable for fully erupted wisdom teeth with normal positioning, regular root morphology, and no significant resistance from alveolar bone.

Suitable for partially erupted impacted wisdom teeth or those completely buried within the alveolar bone.

Suitable for complex cases of wisdom tooth extraction.

Risks

1. Risk of infection
2. Risk of adjacent tooth damage

1. Risk of hematoma
2. Risk of nerve injury

1. Risk of infection
2. Risk of nerve injury

Factors affecting cost:

1. Wisdom tooth growth condition: If all four wisdom teeth are properly aligned and positioned with minimal extraction difficulty, the cost is generally lower. Impacted teeth increase procedural complexity and thus raise the price.

2. Number and morphology of tooth roots: Single-rooted teeth are easier to extract and therefore less expensive. Multi-rooted teeth—especially those with curved or branched roots—pose greater challenges and require more advanced techniques.

3. Regional differences: In economically developed regions with higher living costs, wisdom tooth extraction fees tend to be higher.

Prior to extraction, patients should inform their dentist about their medical history, including any pre-existing conditions and medication allergies, and undergo detailed dental imaging to determine the precise position and growth pattern of the wisdom teeth. After extraction, avoid brushing and rinsing for 24 hours to prevent bleeding and reduce risks of pain, swelling, and infection.
