What should not be consumed with Shanmucha?
Shanmuxia should not be consumed together with foods such as crab, pork liver, lemon, carrot, or milk. It should also not be taken with medications including sulfadiazine tablets, gentamicin sulfate sustained-release tablets, warfarin sodium tablets, irbesartan hydrochlorothiazide, and nifedipine sustained-release tablets. Before consuming any new food—especially when dealing with specific health conditions or taking medication—it is essential to consult a doctor first. Details are as follows:
I. Foods
1. Crab: This food is rich in nutrients such as protein and calcium. However, the tannins in Shanmuxia may degrade these nutrients, reducing nutritional absorption. Therefore, it is not recommended to consume Shanmuxia together with seafood.
2. Pork Liver: Pork liver is high in iron. Components in Shanmuxia may interact with iron to form substances potentially harmful to health. Thus, combining Shanmuxia with pork liver should be avoided.
3. Lemon: Lemons are rich in vitamin C, but consuming them with Shanmuxia may destroy vitamin C and possibly produce precipitates, leading to indigestion.
4. Carrot: Carrots contain vitamin C-decomposing enzymes. When eaten with Shanmuxia, these enzymes may break down the vitamin C in Shanmuxia, reducing its nutritional value.
5. Milk: This food is rich in protein and calcium. Consuming it with Shanmuxia may increase gastrointestinal burden, potentially causing indigestion or diarrhea.
II. Medications
1. Sulfadiazine Tablets: This is an antibacterial drug. Combining sulfadiazine with Shanmuxia may cause urinary tract damage and hematuria (blood in urine). Therefore, this medication should be avoided during Shanmuxia use to prevent adverse reactions. Additionally, it is contraindicated in infants under 2 months of age.
2. Gentamicin Sulfate Sustained-Release Tablets: This antibiotic is used to treat bacterial infections. Co-administration with Shanmuxia may lead to adverse reactions. To avoid potential drug interactions, it is recommended to avoid using this medication while taking Shanmuxia.
3. Warfarin Sodium Tablets: This drug is used to prevent blood clot formation. Components in Shanmuxia may interfere with the metabolism and absorption of anticoagulant drugs, thereby affecting their efficacy. Therefore, if Shanmuxia is needed during treatment, medical advice should be sought first to ensure drug safety and effectiveness.
4. Irbesartan Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets: This medication is used to lower blood pressure and treat hypertension. Ingredients in Shanmuxia may interact with this drug, affecting its therapeutic effect or increasing the risk of adverse reactions. Therefore, hypertensive patients should consult their doctor before using Shanmuxia.
5. Nifedipine Sustained-Release Tablets: This medication contains metal ions. Components in Shanmuxia may react with these metal ions, reducing drug efficacy or causing adverse effects. Therefore, Shanmuxia should be avoided during treatment with medications containing metal ions to prevent drug interactions. Additionally, it is contraindicated in children under 14 years of age.
Pregnant women, individuals with spleen and stomach deficiency-cold, infants, and other special populations should avoid consuming Shanmuxia to prevent adverse health effects. Also, when consuming Shanmuxia, moderation is important to avoid excessive intake that could lead to bodily discomfort.
