Developmental Milestones for a 21-Month-Old Baby
When we refer to a child’s growth and development, we mean two interrelated aspects. The first is physical growth—such as height, weight, and head circumference—and whether these parameters follow a normal growth trajectory.

The second aspect is development—specifically, whether the child has attained age-appropriate milestones across various functional domains, including gross motor skills, fine motor skills, social–emotional responsiveness, and adaptive behavior (e.g., response to people and objects). Regular pediatric health check-ups can comprehensively assess both of these dimensions. Such check-ups enable healthcare providers to monitor whether the child’s physical growth follows expected patterns.

Simultaneously, these assessments determine whether the child has acquired the skills and competencies typical for his or her age group. This allows clinicians—and parents—to clearly ascertain whether the child’s growth and development are proceeding normally for their age. Therefore, we strongly recommend that all parents schedule regular pediatric health check-ups for their children. These visits provide clear, objective insight into whether your child’s growth and development fall within the normal range.
