Can minors consume pre-workout supplements?
Generally, it is not recommended for minors to consume pre-workout supplements (commonly known as "nitrogen pumps"). The reasons are as follows:
A nitrogen pump is a pre-exercise supplement that typically contains ingredients such as creatine, caffeine, beta-alanine, and arginine. These components can dilate blood vessels, enhance muscle vitality, and increase physical alertness, thereby helping athletes achieve the "pump" sensation in their muscles. Minors are in a critical stage of growth and development, and their bodily systems are not yet fully mature. The stimulants in nitrogen pumps may negatively affect their development; therefore, consumption is generally not advised. Long-term or excessive use of nitrogen pumps may lead to health issues such as liver and kidney damage or muscle spasms. Instead, minors can improve their physical fitness and muscle strength through appropriate physical activities, such as aerobic exercises like basketball or badminton, along with moderate strength training.
In daily life, minors should consume more protein- and vitamin-rich foods, such as eggs, lean meat, and chicken, which provide energy and support healthy growth and development.
