Introduction
In general, you should not drink cola when taking cephalosporins. The specific reasons are as follows: Cola is a carbonated beverage containing a large amount of carbon dioxide gas. After drinking cola, excessive bubbles may form in the gastrointestinal tract, potentially interfering with the normal absorption of cephalosporin drugs in the gastrointestinal tract and reducing their adequate absorption into the bloodstream.

Generally speaking, "cephalosporin" refers to cephalosporin antibiotics. It is not recommended to drink cola while taking cephalosporin antibiotics. The specific reasons are as follows:

Cola is a carbonated beverage containing large amounts of carbon dioxide gas. Drinking cola produces excessive bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, which may interfere with the normal absorption of cephalosporin antibiotics in the gastrointestinal system. This could reduce adequate drug absorption into the bloodstream, thereby weakening the intended antibacterial effects and impairing effective treatment of the condition.

In addition, during cephalosporin therapy, components in cola such as carbonic acid, sugar, and various additives may increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, worsening any pre-existing gastrointestinal discomfort and negatively affecting food intake and overall recovery.

To ensure optimal therapeutic efficacy of cephalosporin antibiotics and minimize adverse reactions such as gastrointestinal discomfort, cola should be avoided during treatment. Instead, patients are advised to drink mild, non-interfering beverages such as plain water.
