Introduction
Generally, patients are not allowed to eat fruit two days before undergoing a colonoscopy. Consuming fruit during this period may leave residue in the intestines and could increase intestinal gas, which might interfere with the doctor's ability to clearly observe the intestinal condition, thereby reducing the accuracy of diagnosis. In daily practice, patients scheduled for a colonoscopy must follow medical instructions regarding fasting.

Generally, patients should not eat fruit two days before undergoing a colonoscopy. The specific reasons are as follows:

A colonoscopy is a procedure in which an endoscope is inserted through the anus into the large intestine to observe internal abnormalities. If fruit is consumed within two days prior to the examination, it may leave residual matter in the intestines and increase gas accumulation, both of which can interfere with the doctor's ability to clearly visualize the intestinal lining and reduce diagnostic accuracy.

It is important to note that for 24 hours before the colonoscopy, patients should avoid high-fiber foods, gas-producing foods, and hard-to-digest foods, such as watermelon and grapes. However, if bowel preparation with laxatives or other medications is required before the exam, patients may consume moderate amounts of bananas, apples, or similar fruits one day prior to help soften stools and promote bowel movements.

In daily life, patients scheduled for a colonoscopy must follow medical instructions regarding fasting and avoid eating coarse fiber foods and nuts to prevent interference with the accuracy of the examination results. After completing the colonoscopy, patients should avoid spicy and irritating foods to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort.
