What should not be eaten with tofu干?
There is no absolute rule about what tofu should not be eaten with. However, it is generally not recommended to consume tofu together with spinach, honey, persimmon, bamboo shoots, or lamb, as such combinations may lead to adverse reactions. The specific reasons are as follows:
1. Spinach: Tofu is rich in calcium, while spinach contains high levels of oxalic acid. When consumed together, the oxalic acid can bind with calcium to form calcium oxalate, which impairs calcium absorption and may increase the risk of developing kidney stones.
2. Honey: Tofu contains various minerals, while honey contains multiple enzymes. Consuming these two foods together may trigger unfavorable biochemical reactions in the body, potentially causing symptoms such as diarrhea. To avoid this, it is advisable to wait at least one hour after eating tofu before consuming honey.
3. Persimmon: The protein in tofu may react with tannic acid in persimmons, possibly reducing the body's ability to absorb protein.
4. Bamboo shoots: Bamboo shoots also contain significant amounts of oxalic acid. When eaten with tofu, they may similarly form calcium oxalate, increasing the risk of stone formation.
5. Lamb: Eating tofu together with lamb may lead to jaundice or beriberi (a thiamine deficiency disease).
