What are the different types of abortion?
Generally, miscarriages are categorized into four types: threatened abortion, inevitable abortion, incomplete abortion, and complete abortion. The detailed classifications are as follows:
1. Threatened Abortion
During embryonic development, maternal factors such as hormonal imbalances or excessive fatigue may cause minor separation between the placenta and the uterine wall, resulting in light bleeding and uterine contractions. Pregnant women are advised to ensure adequate rest, reduce physical activity, and, under a physician's guidance, may take medications to preserve the pregnancy.
2. Inevitable Abortion
On the basis of threatened abortion, inevitable abortion occurs when there is increased vaginal bleeding, intensified intermittent lower abdominal pain, and vaginal discharge. The separation between the embryo and the uterine wall further expands, leading to progressively stronger uterine contractions that prevent the continuation of pregnancy.
3. Incomplete Abortion
In incomplete abortion, part of the products of conception are expelled from the uterine cavity, while the remainder remains inside the cavity or is lodged at the cervical opening. This can interfere with uterine contraction, causing continuous vaginal bleeding, which may become severe enough to induce shock. Symptoms such as dizziness and palpitations may also occur.
4. Complete Abortion
In complete abortion, all the products of conception have been expelled from the uterus, vaginal bleeding gradually stops, and abdominal pain disappears. This occurs because once all the intrauterine pregnancy tissue has been expelled, the uterus contracts effectively and the bleeding ceases.
In daily life, if signs of miscarriage appear, it is recommended to seek timely medical attention to avoid delays in treatment.
