How often should diclofenac sodium suppositories be administered?
Generally, for patients with mild pain, it is recommended to administer the suppository once every 24 hours. However, if the patient's pain is severe, administration every 12 hours may be advised. The details are as follows:
Diclofenac sodium suppositories are anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications primarily absorbed through rectal mucosa, effectively relieving bodily pain. They can be used to alleviate postoperative pain, pain caused by stones, etc. For patients with mild pain, diclofenac sodium suppositories should be used once every 24 hours. In cases of severe pain, after medical evaluation, the dosing frequency may be adjusted to every 12 hours.
Regardless of symptom severity, to avoid potential adverse reactions such as gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, or vomiting, the medication should not be used more than twice within a 24-hour period. Before use, clean the anal area thoroughly and gently insert the suppository about 2 cm into the rectum using a disposable finger cot.
During treatment with diclofenac sodium suppositories, it is recommended to maintain adequate fluid intake to facilitate drug dissolution and absorption in the body. Monitor your body’s response closely; if adverse effects such as rectal irritation or stomach discomfort occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician.
Special populations—including pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, children, and patients with impaired liver or kidney function—should consult a doctor before use and only use the medication under medical supervision.
