Introduction
Under normal circumstances, there are differences between *Fritillaria unibracteata* (Song Beimu) and *Fritillaria cirrhosa* (Chuan Beimu) in terms of morphological characteristics, chemical composition, functions and effects, applicable conditions, and storage methods. *Fritillaria unibracteata* is named for its appearance resembling a "pine cone," and is generally round or nearly spherical in shape with a yellowish-white surface. *Fritillaria cirrhosa*, on the other hand, is cylindrical or slightly flattened and round in shape with a nearly white surface.

Generally, Song Beimu (Fritillaria thunbergii) and Chuan Beimu (Fritillaria cirrhosa) differ in morphological characteristics, chemical composition, functions and effects, applicable conditions, and storage methods. A detailed analysis is as follows:

1. Morphological Characteristics: Song Beimu gets its name due to its pine-cone-like appearance. It is nearly spherical or globular in shape, with a yellowish-white surface. The outer layer consists of two scales of significantly different sizes that are closely appressed together. The unapposed parts are attached at the lower part, with the top closed. In contrast, Chuan Beimu is cylindrical or slightly flattened and globular in shape, with a nearly white surface.

2. Chemical Composition: Song Beimu contains volatile oils, sterols, alkaloids, polysaccharides, starch, and trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, and zinc. It has a high alkaloid content, which exhibits strong pharmacological activity. Chuan Beimu contains various amino acids, trace elements, vitamins B1, B2, C, and multiple mineral elements such as potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium. These components can enhance immune function, promote metabolism, and maintain normal physiological functions.

3. Functions and Effects: Song Beimu has effects of clearing heat, moistening the lungs, resolving phlegm, and relieving cough. It is primarily used to treat symptoms such as consumptive cough, yin deficiency with tidal fever, dry cough with little phlegm, unsatisfactory expectoration, irritability with insomnia, throat obstruction and pain, chest tightness, and discomfort. In addition to clearing heat, moistening the lungs, resolving phlegm, and relieving cough, Chuan Beimu also has the effect of dispersing nodules and reducing abscesses. It is mainly used to treat consumptive cough, lung heat dry cough, scrofula, breast abscess, and lung abscess.

4. Applicable Conditions: Regarding applicable conditions, Song Beimu is more effective in relieving symptoms such as yin deficiency with tidal fever, while Chuan Beimu demonstrates better therapeutic effects for lung heat dry cough.

5. Storage Methods: Due to its relatively hard texture, Song Beimu is easier to store but should be protected against dampness and insects to maintain its medicinal efficacy. Chuan Beimu, with a more fragile texture, requires more careful handling during storage to avoid dampness and heat, which could affect its efficacy. Proper storage methods can prolong the shelf life of the herbs and ensure their therapeutic effects.

When using these herbs, selection should be based on the patient's specific condition and under the guidance of a physician.
