Introduction
Whether throat tightness or a sensation of choking is indicative of hyperthyroidism needs to be determined based on the presence or absence of typical symptoms of hyperthyroidism. If related symptoms are present, hyperthyroidism may be possible; however, if typical symptoms of hyperthyroidism are absent, it may not be hyperthyroidism. If discomfort occurs, prompt medical attention is recommended.

In general circumstances, the throat refers to the pharynx, and hyperthyroidism refers to hyperthyroidism. Whether a tight throat feeling like being choked indicates hyperthyroidism needs to be determined based on whether typical symptoms of hyperthyroidism are present. If related symptoms are present, hyperthyroidism may exist; however, if typical symptoms of hyperthyroidism are absent, it may not be hyperthyroidism. If discomfort occurs, timely medical consultation is recommended. Detailed analysis is as follows:

When patients experience a tight throat sensation along with symptoms such as excessive sweating, palpitations, hand tremors, increased appetite but weight loss, exophthalmos, and thyroid enlargement, they may have hyperthyroidism. This is because elevated thyroid hormone levels in the body lead to increased metabolism and sympathetic nervous system activation. The enlarged thyroid gland may compress surrounding tissues, including the throat, causing a sensation of throat tightness.

However, if a tight throat sensation like being choked is accompanied by symptoms such as throat pain, coughing, fever, and there are no typical symptoms of hyperthyroidism, it could be caused by upper respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis or tonsillitis, rather than hyperthyroidism.

It is important to maintain a regular sleep schedule, avoid staying up late, drink plenty of water, rest adequately, maintain a light and easily digestible diet, and avoid consuming iodine-rich and spicy or irritating foods
