Brain tumors can severely impair brain function and, in severe cases, endanger life. They may occur at any age—including in children. So, what are the causes of pediatric brain tumors? Below is an overview.

Causes of Pediatric Brain Tumors

1. Viral Infection

If a fetus during pregnancy or a newborn infant becomes infected with papillomavirus or other viruses, it may trigger pathological changes within the body, potentially leading to pediatric brain tumors. Therefore, regular prenatal examinations are essential during pregnancy, and close monitoring of the infant’s development is necessary after birth.

2. Food Additives

Many processed foods, fast foods, and beverages contain additives, preservatives, artificial colors, and flavorings. The safety of many such additives for children remains uncertain; thus, attention must be paid to children’s dietary habits. Children inherently possess relatively immature liver and kidney functions, making them more susceptible to toxin accumulation—potentially triggering malignant transformations, including pediatric brain tumors.

3. Improper Medication Use

Children at all developmental stages should never misuse medications or overuse antibiotics. Inappropriate drug use may adversely affect a child’s health and represents one potential contributing factor to pediatric brain tumors. Moreover, maternal misuse of medications during pregnancy may inflict unpredictable harm on fetal growth and development.

4. Electromagnetic Radiation

Electromagnetic radiation is among the many possible causes of pediatric brain tumors. Today’s children frequently use various electronic devices—such as televisions, computers, tablets, and smartphones—and often become highly engrossed in them. Prolonged exposure to electromagnetic radiation poses significant health risks. Similarly, frequent computer use by pregnant women may adversely affect fetal health.
