Introduction
Nasolacrimal duct obstruction can be relieved through various massage techniques, including cross-massage on both sides of the nasal wings with fingers, pressing at the root of the nose, massaging the inner corner of the eye, and downward and upward massage of the nasal wings. These massage techniques can promote blood circulation, clear the nasolacrimal duct, and thereby alleviate symptoms such as nasal congestion and tearing. However, regardless of the method used, persistence is required.

Generally speaking, blocked tear ducts refer to nasolacrimal duct obstruction. The main massage techniques for nasolacrimal duct obstruction include cross-massage on both sides of the nostrils, pressing at the root of the nose, massaging the inner corner of the eye, downward massage of the alae nasi, and upward massage of the alae nasi. If discomfort occurs, timely medical attention is recommended. Detailed explanations are as follows:

1. Cross-massage on both sides of the nostrils

During the massage, alternate the index or middle fingers of both hands to gently rub both sides of the nostrils. The massage direction can be alternated left and right to promote blood circulation and clear the nasolacrimal duct.

2. Pressing at the root of the nose

Use the fingertip to massage the root of the nose, which is the central area of the nasal tip. Apply slightly stronger pressure until a mild pain sensation is felt. This helps unclog the nasolacrimal duct and can alleviate symptoms such as nasal congestion and tearing to a certain extent.

3. Massaging the inner corner of the eye

The inner corner of the eye is connected to the nasolacrimal duct. Gently pressing this area with the fingertip can also help reduce the severity of nasolacrimal duct obstruction. During the massage, it is recommended to direct the pressure toward the nostrils and massage from top to bottom until the area feels slightly warm.

4. Downward massage of the alae nasi

The alae nasi (nostril wings) are also connected to the nasolacrimal duct. During massage, start from the inner canthus of the eye and move gradually downward, ending at the lacrimal sac area of the eye.

5. Upward massage of the alae nasi

This can be combined with the upward massage technique of the alae nasi. During the massage, start by pressing the outer side of the nose and the lacrimal sac area, then move toward the inner canthus while applying pressure and squeezing. This helps the lacrimal sac expel purulent secretions and relieve symptoms of nasolacrimal duct obstruction.

It should be noted that the above massage techniques require persistence to achieve therapeutic effects, so it is important not to give up midway. Additionally, maintaining hygiene of the eyes and nose is essential to reduce the risk of infection.
