Introduction
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) refers to a chronic progressive neurodegenerative disease, generally incurable. The pathogenesis and progression of ALS are not yet fully understood. Although some medications can be used to treat ALS, they only slightly delay the progression of the disease and cannot provide a complete cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) refers to a progressive neurodegenerative disease. Under normal circumstances, ALS cannot be cured. Detailed analysis is as follows:
ALS is a chronic progressive neurodegenerative disease, and its pathogenesis and progression are not yet fully understood. This disease primarily affects motor neurons, leading to gradual muscle atrophy and weakness, with progressive worsening of symptoms over time. Although some medications can be used in the treatment of ALS, they only slightly delay disease progression and prolong survival without achieving a complete cure. As neuronal loss continues, patients gradually lose motor function and may eventually require ventilator support to sustain life until respiratory failure occurs. Once diagnosed, comprehensive treatment should be actively initiated to delay disease progression as much as possible.
Patients usually face tremendous psychological pressure. It is recommended that family members and healthcare providers offer sufficient care and support to help patients build confidence in coping with the disease.
