Is it safe to eat durian after it has been thawed from frozen?
Generally, frozen durian can still be eaten after thawing if its condition remains good. However, if there are signs of spoilage or off odors, it usually should not be consumed.

Frozen durian should be placed in the refrigerator's chill compartment for slow thawing, or moved to the chill compartment one day in advance for natural thawing. This helps preserve the durian's flavor and texture and prevents rapid bacterial growth. If the thawed durian shows no significant changes in color, odor, or texture—such as no mold, unpleasant smell, or soft, mushy areas—it is generally safe to eat. The durian’s unique aroma and texture should be preserved.
If the durian was not fresh or had quality issues before freezing, or if noticeable spoilage occurs after thawing—such as mold, blackening, or unpleasant odors—the durian should not be eaten. Consuming such durian may lead to food poisoning, causing symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
During storage, ensure the packaging is sealed to prevent microbial contamination from external sources. It is recommended to consume thawed durian in one sitting, as refreezing may affect its texture and quality.
