Introduction
Under normal circumstances, Pseudostellaria root (Prince ginseng) should be avoided when consuming together with radish, Paris polyphylla (Rhizoma Paridis), strong tea, coffee, mung beans, etc. It should also not be taken with medications such as Five-Fingered Powder (Wulingzhi),感冒灵颗粒 (a cold remedy granule), Amoxicillin Capsules, Nifedipine Tablets, and Warfarin Sodium Tablets, so as not to interfere with the effectiveness of Pseudostellaria root and potentially cause harm to the body. If discomfort occurs, immediate medical attention is recommended.

Generally, Pseudostellaria root (Tai Zi Shen) should be avoided when consumed together with radish, Veratrum, strong tea, coffee, mung beans, and other similar items. It should also not be taken along with medications such as erythromycin enteric-coated tablets, Ganmaoling granules, amoxicillin capsules, nifedipine tablets, and warfarin sodium tablets. Combining Pseudostellaria root with these substances may reduce its therapeutic effects or even cause harm to the body. If any discomfort occurs, it is recommended to seek immediate medical attention. The detailed explanations are as follows:

I. Foods

1. Radish

Radish has functions of relieving qi and eliminating food accumulation, while Pseudostellaria root is primarily used for replenishing qi. The qi-relieving effect of radish may weaken the qi-replenishing effect of Pseudostellaria root. Consuming them together may significantly reduce the medicinal effects of Pseudostellaria root, thus affecting its nourishing effects on the body.

2. Veratrum

In traditional Chinese medicine compatibility, there exists a principle stating, "Various ginsengs and peonies are incompatible with Veratrum," meaning that many types of ginseng-like herbs should not be used together with Veratrum. Pseudostellaria root also belongs to this category, and combining it with Veratrum may lead to adverse reactions, reduce each other's efficacy, or potentially harm the body.

3. Strong Tea

Tea contains large amounts of tannic acid, which can combine with active ingredients in Pseudostellaria root to form substances difficult for the human body to absorb, thereby reducing the medicinal effects of Pseudostellaria root and affecting its nourishing and therapeutic functions.

4. Coffee

Coffee contains caffeine and other components that stimulate the nervous system. Pseudostellaria root, on the other hand, has nourishing and body-regulating properties. The stimulating effect of coffee may interfere with the body-regulating function of Pseudostellaria root, reducing its therapeutic effects and possibly causing discomfort such as palpitations and insomnia.

5. Mung Beans

Mung beans have functions of clearing heat and detoxifying, as well as cooling the body and promoting diuresis. They are relatively cooling in nature and have some detoxifying effects. When consumed together with Pseudostellaria root, they may weaken its nourishing effects, preventing the herb's medicinal effects from being fully utilized and affecting the body's absorption and utilization of the herb.

II. Medications

1. Erythromycin Enteric-coated Tablets

Erythromycin enteric-coated tablets are antibiotics belonging to the macrolide class. Pseudostellaria root may alter the gastrointestinal environment, such as pH levels, thereby affecting the absorption and stability of erythromycin in the gastrointestinal tract and ultimately reducing its efficacy.

2. Ganmaoling Granules

Ganmaoling granules are primarily used to relieve surface symptoms, clear heat, and reduce fire to alleviate cold symptoms. However, Pseudostellaria root has nourishing properties. When Pseudostellaria root is taken together with cold medicines like Ganmaoling granules, its nourishing characteristics may trap external pathogens inside the body, making it difficult to relieve cold symptoms. Additionally, interactions between the two may occur, reducing drug efficacy.

3. Amoxicillin Capsules

Amoxicillin capsules achieve antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Its chemical structure and mechanism of action in the body may interact with components in Pseudostellaria root, interfering with the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of the drug in the body. This interaction not only reduces drug efficacy but may also cause adverse reactions.

4. Nifedipine Tablets

Nifedipine tablets mainly lower blood pressure by inhibiting calcium ion influx and relaxing vascular smooth muscle. Pseudostellaria root itself has certain blood pressure-regulating properties. When taken together with antihypertensive drugs like nifedipine tablets, it may enhance or weaken the effects of the blood pressure-lowering medication, causing unstable blood pressure fluctuations and making it difficult for hypertension patients to effectively control their blood pressure.

5. Warfarin Sodium Tablets

Warfarin sodium tablets exert anticoagulant effects by inhibiting the synthesis of vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors. Pseudostellaria root may affect the body's coagulation mechanisms. When used together with anticoagulants like warfarin sodium tablets, it may alter the drug's effectiveness, increasing the risk of bleeding, such as symptoms like skin bruising, nosebleeds, and gum bleeding, which may harm health.

In daily life, maintaining dietary hygiene is important. Pseudostellaria root should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated, light-protected, and moisture-proof environment, and should not be stored for too long. Also, it should be consumed in appropriate amounts to avoid causing physical discomfort.
