Introduction
In the early stages of hyperthyroidism or during treatment, if the patient has not yet reached a stable condition—that is, thyroid hormone levels and thyroid-stimulating hormone levels have not returned to normal—medication generally should not be discontinued. Suddenly stopping the medication at this time may cause the thyroid function to become overactive again, leading to worsening symptoms such as palpitations, sweating, weight loss, and anxiety.

Hyperthyroidism refers to an overactive thyroid gland. During the course of medication for this condition, stopping the medication is generally not recommended if the condition remains unstable. If the patient's condition stabilizes and thyroid function recovers, the medication can usually be gradually discontinued under a doctor's guidance. If any discomfort or symptoms arise, it is advisable to seek medical attention at a hospital promptly and follow the doctor's instructions for treatment.

In the early stages of hyperthyroidism or during treatment, if the patient has not yet reached a stable condition—meaning thyroid hormone levels and thyroid-stimulating hormone levels have not returned to normal—the medication should generally not be discontinued. Suddenly stopping the medication at this stage may cause the thyroid function to become overactive again, worsening symptoms such as palpitations, sweating, weight loss, and anxiety, and could even trigger a thyroid crisis, a severe and potentially life-threatening acute complication.

When symptoms of hyperthyroidism disappear—for example, when heat intolerance, excessive sweating, palpitations, hand tremors, increased appetite, frequent hunger, and weight loss (signs of a high metabolic state) improve or resolve—and when the goiter shrinks or returns to normal size, and thyroid function tests (including free T3, free T4, and thyroid-stimulating hormone) return to normal levels and remain stable for more than six months, the medication can usually be gradually discontinued under a doctor's supervision.

In daily life, it is recommended to ensure adequate sleep and avoid excessive fatigue; maintain a relaxed mood and avoid excessive stress or anxiety; enhance nutrition while maintaining a light diet, and avoid foods high in iodine, spicy foods, or pickled foods.
